Band Of The Day #405 - Lab Coast

Lab Coast's first year as a band started as a self-proclaimed "ramshackle channelling of 90s junk-pop" - though this may conjure regrettable memories of Blink 182 concerts and the skater-grunge movement for some of us, the Canadian foursome have been quick to mature their sound into an unshakeably catchy and breezy surf-pop.

Hailing from Calgary, David Laing's vocals are Canada's smoothest export since maple syrup, yet are expertly juxtaposed with Chris Dadge's fuzzy guitar distortions (a nod to their 90s beginnings) that create a retro, lo-fi sound reminiscent of The Drums, and hazy summer evenings.

With a debut album and two EPs under their belt, it's no surprise that the quartet are making waves on both of sides of the Atlantic. Expect them to be creeping their way onto many an "essential playlist' this summer.
