Sun Ra came to this planet a hundred years ago. During his stay on Earth, he became an acclaimed free jazz musician and his Arkestra a fascinating ensemble of playful musicians in glittery clothes wearing bizarre head coverings. Sun Ra managed to blend into swing and jazz the most avant-garde musical combinations based on modern dance, Egyptian cosmology, Eastern philosophies, Bible, numerology, surrealism, pseudo art as well as African rhythms, raw blues, atonal melodies or electronic experiments. His piano performances oscillated between gentle melodies and synthesizer chaos. Sun Ra left this planet in 1993, but he's still present in the tunes he composed. This controversial artist, who claimed that he came from Saturn, was inducted into the Alabama Jazz Hall of Fame and at the occasion of the centennial of his arrival to planet Earth, 25 musicians and dancers performing under the name Sun Ra Centennial Dream Arkestra (led by one of the original members, Marshall Allen) hit the road to celebrate and play his songs all around the globe. In July, they'll land at Tren?ín Airport and show us their cosmic free jazz.
