Find out why José over at Terrorizer picked Grayceon as band of the week:  Even if you don’t know them very well, the name Grayceon might be somewhat familiar to you. Not only has this San Fran band been around for a few years, but also because guitarist /vocalist Max Doyle and drummer Zack Farwell play in thrashers Walken and celloist / vocalist Jackie Perez Gratz has collaborated with a truly spectacular cast of people (Neurosis, Agalloch, Giant Squid, Ludicra, Amber Asylum and we’d best stop here before it gets too awesome for comfort).

Still, regardless of anyone’s level of intimacy with the band, now it’s clearly Grayceon’s time to truly step up above all connections and impress for their own merits, which shouldn’t be too difficult considering how good their new album ‘All We Destroy’ is.

Now a mature band, on their third full-length release and first for cult label Profound Lore, Grayceon’s “arrival” factor on this album is undeniable. Not that the self-titled debut and 2008′s ‘This Grand Show’ were bad records by any means, on the contrary, but the scope of ‘All We Destroy’ is simply staggering.

Six songs in 50 minutes, including a true emotional epic with the 17-minute long centerpiece ‘We Can’, see the band cover an impressive array of textures, from downright super-heavy riffing to gentle yet restless moments (Gratz beautifully crooning “it breaks my heart in two” repeatedly during the kaleidoscopic ‘Shellmounds’ is way up there in the disquieting list), and even with some bizarre excursions to psychedelic Spaghetti Western-sounding bits, complex-sounding folk and other quirks, jazzy but never pointlessly meandering, always challenging but never obvious.
