“A spark to light the fire! The future of Brit pop is assured,” concluded a Flemish newspaper after Kasabian’s show at Rock Werchter 2011, bestowing a grateful four stars. As if Humo could actually listen in on our phone calls, their editor wrote, completely off the radar: “They can come back again.” And they will! On Saturday 20 August, they’ll be on the Pukkelpop main stage with dEUS, The Offspring and Duck Sauce. Kasabian is already a serious contender with our British neighbours, as evidenced by the Brit Award they won last year and their headline shows at Isle Of Wight and Rockness. They’re sometimes referred to as the successors to Oasis or The Stone Roses. More than enough to feed the hype here. In any case, we’ll get to sing along at the tops of our lungs at the Pukkelpop Saturday to their fantastic single, ‘Fire’! “Woo hoo!” Also on Saturday, the brand spanking new hard-rock girl band Cherri Bomb will do their thing for the crowd. Young and enthusiastic, this all-girl ensemble has opened for the Smashing Pumpkins and gotten an approving nod from their big hero Dave Grohl. Courtney, eat your heart out! With Eminem, Tinie Tempah, Wiz Khalifa, D12, …, high-powered hiphop will be hitting the Pukkelpop stages. New additions on Friday: Slaughterhouse and The Knux. Slaughterhouse is a star-studded hiphop group that includes Crooked I, Joe Budden, Joell Ortiz and Royce da 5'9". They’ve already released an EP and an album together on Shady Records, their good buddy Eminem’s label. For those who prefer their raps accompanied by a solid guitar line, The Knux will satisfy your cravings. After setting the American festival scene on fire, this fraternal duo is now jumping the Big Puddle. “Bloc Party’s ‘Silent Alarm’ meets Outkast’s ‘Stankonia’,” we read in a review of their latest album, and we wholeheartedly agree.
