Jana Buvari - Australia

  • What is your name?
    Jana Buvari
  • Which country are you from?
    Australia
  • What do you do in your daily life?
I'm a professional classical musician however spend my work days offering IT support to a very large Australian company. My weeknights are filled with choir, piano, ensemble rehearsals and my weekends are spent attending local metal gigs.
  • When did you visit PP Europe for the first time?
2009 in the middle of my 4 month journey around central and western Europe.
  • What was the main reason to visit PP Europe for the first time?
I was travelling with my father for 4 months...the journey came to a standstill and I found myself immensely bored. I jumped on the internet and learnt my good mates from band Chaos Divine had been invited to play and without a second thought I immediately took to the Prog Power EU forums and found a couple of Germans (Ray and Dario) to hitchhike across the border with! I never looked back from the moment I stepped in their car for the 6 hour journey! The first quote of my trip being Dario saying "Jana?! I thought you were a man!" haha
  • How many times have you visited PP Europe so far?
I've been 2009, 2011 and 2012 and intend to be there this year also!
  • What was your first impression of PP Europe at your first visit?
Having had no intention of travelling to the Netherlands in the first place; I really didn't know what to expect. I was going in unchartered territory alone and with only $400 in my pocket to last 4 weeks. I entered the Castle grounds and was suddenly greeted by everyone who I'd spoken to on the forums! Every single person there made me feel as though I was one of the family and made feel incredibly welcome. Despite it being the end of summer the weather was amazing and my Australian friends were so incredibly happy and grateful to be there. If it's one thing I always say about visiting foreign places it's that "The People are what make a place so wonderful to visit" and with Prog Power Europe, you have gorgeous scenery, brilliant music and absolutely, "true-blue', "fair-dinkum' amazing people! Needless to say this tough Aussie was brought to tears when she realised she had to leave!

  • What is your overal impression of PP Europe?
As much as I'd like to describe PPEU as a very humble festival; it's all that and more. I was incredibly impressed with the caliber of bands and their music but also with how brilliantly the festival is organized and run. If only Australian festival organizers would take a page from their book! There is so much to be said about how smooth the festival runs and how accommodating the local people, shops, restaurants, Kasteel de Berckt employees and Sjiwa Baarlo employees are. The whole weekend appears flawless to all who attend and I really cannot compare it to any other festival I've been to; it's just one of a kind.
  • Why should people visit PP Europe?
It goes without saying that when you visit a restaurant that's full of people; it must be good. The same goes for PPEU in that you have people from all over the world travelling just for this event. If you're from another country; I can assure you that you will almost always meet others from where you've come from! Korea, Australia, UK, America, Spain, Finland, Switzerland, Germany, Austria, Hungary, France and I could go on and on! Every time I meet someone new at PPEU; they bring with them an amazing experience and make PPEU even better! In terms of musical taste; PPEU will deliver even If you're not solely into progressive metal. The beauty of PPEU is that heavy, psychedelic, thrash, melodic, djent and even Viking metal lovers are all going to get something great out of this festival. Many PPEU commoners aren't even huge fans of prog metal in the first place! And that says a lot!
  • Tell us in 1 sentence what PP Europe means to you?
My Music, my Holiday & my Family... Prog Power Europe simply cannot be compared to any other festival out there!
  • The last words are yours....
    • Since I've been quite serious in all of my answers...I'll let the hair down a bit now!
    • I kid-you-not, that not a day goes by where I don't think of Prog Power and all the fun I've had!
    • Drinking on the grass in the sun
    • amazing breakfast (when I don't sleep in)
    • headbanging to crazy music
    • trying to pronounce (badly) some of the band names
    • the local Baarlo food (Chinese, Italian, pub food, burgers & chips with mayo) haha and bitter balls
    • buying hundreds of dollars worth of drink tokens and then somehow carrying them around all weekend
    • partying every night til the crack of dawn...and then some (and the hotel doesn't complain!)
    • Surviving from the alcohol Finland brings with them...
    • Running across cold cobblestones with bare feet at 4am to get more alcohol!
    • Learning how to swear in every language Prog Power delivers from its attendants!
    • Listening to new albums whilst drinking (and recovering) in the sun
    • Sharing hilarious stories with your mates whilst walking to and from the concert venue
    • The after party on the Sunday night
    • Balls to the wall
    • Flugel shots
    • Convincing the Sjiwa bar staff to make me something bizarre to drink
    • Talking to EVERYONE! Drinking with EVERYONE! Headbanging with EVERYONE!
