FutureEverything in association with Sound And Music present... SuperCritical Mass

FutureEverything are looking for amateur, aspiring and professional musicians including ANYONE INTERESTED IN SINGING and ALL BRASS PLAYERS to take part in two wonderful mass participation musical performances.

Australian sound-artists SuperCritical Mass are coming to Manchester for a two-week residency, featuring workshops and rehearsals and culminating in two spectacular public performances during the FutureEverything Festival 2012.

1. Friday 18th May 2012 "Voices" sees a critical mass of singers in the magnificent setting of Manchester Cathedral.

2. Saturday 19th May 2012 "Fanfare" sees a critical mass of brass players performing a "flash mob' composition by the waterside at Salford Quays.

We are interested in hearing from you, whether you are just starting out on an instrument, part of a school choir, to University students right up to professional musicians.

The idea is that anyone and everyone can take part - the compositions are built around movement and space, rather than scores and notes - as such this really is your chance to take part in a wonderful musical experience!

The musicians follow "algorithms'?simple, memorisable instructions?telling them what to play and where to move around a public space.

The results are huge-scale immersive and meditative performance-installations, within which audiences can freely move about or sit and absorb.

What's In It For Me?

This is an ideal opportunity for performers from all ages and abilities to take part in two large-scale, high profile events, in a fun and friendly way.

There is no "home-work' or take home rehearsing, and no huge productions - just people and their instruments.

As participants in the super critical masses, YOU and only you are the starting point - there is no "prewritten' piece to learn, it's built entirely around the group's ability and areas of interest.

The experiences are guaranteed to be unique, immersive, exciting and great fun!

All of the performances will be recorded by a professional filming crew, and copies can be made available to participants on request.

To sign up, and for more information, please email amalie@futureeverything.org, with the email title SCM BRASS (if you are a brass player, or run a brass band), or SCM VOICE, if you are a vocalist, or in a choir, or even if you have never done any formal singing and just want to get involved in performing...you can also apply for both, if you're interested?

In your email please include your name, contact telephone number and any dates which you are NOT available during the period 1st May - 19th May. We will then get in touch to let you know when the workshop sessions will be taking place, and more information about the final performances.

*PLEASE NOTE we will NOT require you to make a full, two-week commitment to the project. The workshops will be tailored to suit your needs, and there may only be one or two workshops prior to each performance. Workshops commence with a drop in workshop at 5pm, Sunday 13 May at St Philips Church (2 Wilton Place Salford M3 6FR).

For whole brass bands and choirs the SuperCritical Mass artists will visit you and run the workshop at your own home venue.
