Thinking of the Israeli left, a lot of people only have the onstensibly socialist Kibbuzim or the aging Uri Avnery in mind. However, just as Israel and her mostly immigrant population is no monolithic block, neither is her left. It surely consists of more than only Gush Shalom and a Communist Party bewailing the former Soviet Union. But who are these groups, so often ignored, which form the radical left scene in Israel, and what do they actually stand for?

From the point of view of an Israeli who has lived there for more than 20 years, I will tell you about the political situation and its conflicts, the history of immigration, and the various left-wing groups trying to topple racism, war, and 45 years of occupation.
