Since their inception in 2007, electronica masters Darkstar have been dominating the non-genre of post-progressive dub-step pop, delivering eerily atmospheric tunes that have rightfully hailed them as the new Animal Collective.
The London three-piece are just as cosmic as their name suggests. James Buttery's haunting vocals sit on a bed of systematic dub beats (think Primal Scream's Higher Than the Sun) that are slathered in a dressing of beautifully macabre lyrics, and finally topped with a sprinkling of Eno-esque synths. The result? A psychedelic suspension of your senses in an alternate aural universe. It's the kind of thing you'd imagine Carl Sagan's brain to sound like.
Following the success of their debut album "North', the post-progressive dub-steppers have returned with new record "News From Nowhere' (Rough Trade's current album of the month) and a European tour. Catch them at London's XOYO on 25th February.
