Since making their major festival debut as an unsigned band at Sonisphere in 2011 a lot's happened to The Virginmarys. They've been signed, toured with Queens Of The Stone Age and played shows all over the word ranging from the US to Japan. They think this time they'll be putting on an even better show than last time.

"We're much "fitter' as a band because we've been playing so much since then. Last year for six months we pretty much had a gig every other day," says frontman Ally Dickaty. "I think that kind of shows because we're a lot better and tighter and full of energy and we're playing a lot of new songs as well. We're planning to do the next album before the years out and this is what these gigs are all about, trying out new tunes."

Having played a bunch of festivals since 2011, what are the bands essential festival tips?

"Just have a good time, People overthink shit about what to take, but maybe take some toilet roll," says Ally. "And maybe bin bags and sun cream for the extremes."

Bassist Matt Rose has more cautionary advice.

"The most-essential one for me is don't go to portaloos on your own. Always take a mate because one of our mates did that and somebody pushed him over and all that blue liquid went all over him and he was just covered and smelt like shit. So always go with someone and make sure they guard you!"

Fortunately the kind of festival-goers who come to Sonisphere just aren't that antisocial!
