Kim Stian and Lene Kristin Haugland

  • What is your name?
Kim Stian and Lene Kristin Haugland
  • Which country are you from?
    Norway
  • What do you do in your daily life?
When not taking care of our two lovely girls I work as Product Manager in a company called Optimarin. Lene is working part time in a grocery store just down the street from our house.
  • When did you visit PP Europe for the first time?
I think we first started talking about going to the festival was in late 2008. We were at the PowerPower Scandinavia festival in Copenhagen and I noticed a guy with a PP Europe t-shirt. My God how many good bands on the back of that t-shirt!We considered going in 2009 but we felt that Baarlo was a hard place to reach with a wide variety of public transportations. Therefore we ended up at a Dream Theater concert in Oslo instead (bummer). In 2010 this akward public transportation I was imagining myself was proven wrong - this was actually the most fun ride we're ever joined! Thanks to super-organiser Marcel Slaman!
  • What was the main reason to visit PP Europe for the first time?
After considering going in 2009 we were concidering even harder in 2010. The booking started very well with my (already at that point) Norwegian favourites Leprous and Myrath (we loved their Symphony X alike debute album Hope). And when Shadow Gallery was announced to do their first show ever we ordered tickets immediately! In May 2010 Haken was announced - I was jumping up and down in thrills! Aquarium was for the both of us THE ALBUM of 2010! A perfect booking!
  • How many times have you visited PP Europe so far?
We have been every year since 2010 and are of course coming this year as well!
  • What was your first impression of PP Europe at your first visit?
Our first impression of PP Europe started already at Schiphol Airport. We met Lars Normann at Oslo Airport and he told us about someone organising a joint train ride. At Schiphol we was greeted by Marcel, Alex and Ricard. They were very inclusive and the talk was immediately running smoothly. We felt like we'de known them forever. During the train ride to Venlo even more fantastic people tumbled in. Kees, Thijs, Justin, Marc, Jonathan, Lykle, Miriam, Paul and Deb. Everyone was so nice and we had a very good gut feeling that the weekend would turn out pretty nice.Arriving the courtyard of Castle de Berckt we were met by even more nice people. People was sitting in a ring - a ring which grew bigger and bigger as people arrived because no-one was excluded. Arriving Sjiwa for the first time we were supprised by how small the venue was, we were expecting a festival with 4-5000 people. Yet we were really happy with the intimacy and wouldn't replace it for the world. We will conclude that our fist impression of PP Europe was the attendees - better known as the "PP Family".

  • What is your overall impression of PP Europe?
Music-wise: the festival blows our expectations. The best bands in the genre are represented and the fact that the band members are mingling and partying together with the rest of us mortals is really cool.Organisation-wise: the festival seems to be carried out very smoothly. The schedule are always on time. The festival management are very down to earth and greets you with a hug upon arrival. Over time you feel kinda personal attached to them.Attendees-wise: One big happy family which is always hard to seperate from on Monday morning.
  • Why should people visit PP Europe?
    See all of the above!
  • Tell us in 1 sentence what PP Europe means to you?
The worlds greatest and most intimate music festival, no matter genre - great music, great audience and great organisers!
  • The last words are yours....
Fantastic music, awesome family, joy, beer, hugs, unity, new awesome family members, brilliant organisers, more beer, excellent stage performances, weird stage performances, more hugs, even more beer, balls of steel, BEER..... Hangovers..... Good memories.
