Claude Nobs and Quincy Jones were awarded on July 4th at the US Embassy for their service promoting mutual understanding between the people of Switzerland and the United States through the musical medium of jazz.

"Thanks to your foresight, hard work and passion for the arts, you have created one of the premier jazz festivals in the world at Montreux. That you did so at such a young age serves as an inspiration for young people on both sides of the Atlantic. (...) I offer you my thanks for promoting America's culture in Switzerland and for your hard work ensuring cultural exchange between our "sister republics."
