Modern Films is delighted to present the UK & Ireland virtual cinema release of writer-director Lisa Rovner's SISTERS WITH TRANSISTORS, the untold story of electronic music's female pioneers, remarkable composers who embraced machines and their liberating technologies to utterly transform how we produce and listen to music today.

With a voiceover from iconic music pioneer Laurie Anderson and produced by Anna Lena Vaney (Zidane: A 21st Century Portrait), the film will open in the UK & Ireland, alongside a programme of special events and panel discussions, from 23 April 2021, one of which will be at TGE Online where you can watch a live Q&A hosted by Kate Hutchinson in discussion with Lisa Rovner as part of the conference activity.

While electronic music is often perceived as the domain of men pushing buttons, knobs, and boundaries, from the very beginning women have also been integral in inventing the devices, techniques and tropes that have defined the shape of sound for years to come. Recent protests calling for greater recognition of women's achievements have swept across politics, business, even Hollywood and the world of music is no exception. With the wider social, political and cultural context of the 20th century as its backdrop, SISTERS WITH TRANSISTORS uses extraordinary archival material to reveal a unique emancipation struggle, restoring the central role of women in the history of music.
