One of The Guardian's best family-friendly festivals for 2016

Over the weekend Doune the Rabbit Hole featured in The Guardian as one of their picks for best family-friendly festivals for 2016.They said

And if you don't want to take The Guardian's word for it, let us tell you about some of what we have planned for the younger family members over the weekend.

Within the large free play area you can learn about balance, wobbling and spinning with giant hula hoops, spinning plates and unicycles at Spinning Jenny's Circus Skills. Free face painting, drama games, puppet making, bubble workshops, yoga sessions, special story sessions and a whole load of other activities will be available for children at the festival. The will also be a Mad Hatter's Tea Party where general silliness is a must! For the youngest family members there will be a special baby only zone. It will have sensory activities, story time, treasure baskets and a baby chill out space. There will be a "real nappies workshop' where parents and expectant parents can see samples of different nappies as well as the best slings for your little ones.

Toilets and Babychange: We are very conscious of the fact that adequate toilet facilities are really important for everyone, families included. We're aware that families often have extra requirements so we ensure there are not only ample baby change facilities but also plenty of clean toilets, including ones specifically for kids. The signs that indicate that the toilets are for kids only are actually made by the kids themselves as one of the first optional activities of the festival which makes them feel super productive but we have also found that it gives the kids an amazing sense of ownership over them - they have even been known to confront grown-ups who look like they're about to use their loos!

Special camping areas: We have a beautiful family camping area distinct from the general camping zone where families can camp under the beautiful 300 year-old oak trees which are dotted around the Cardross Estate. The Family Camping site has it's own set of family and kids toilets as well as baby-change facilities.

Breastfeeding: We have a toddler tent on site where breastfeeding is more than welcome, however, if you're the kind of mum who's not fussed about where you feed your child, then neither are we - fell free to breastfeed whilst rocking out to a band if you like!

Showers: There are a small number of showers on site which are available for use throughout the festival in exchange for a donation - these are available for the duration of the event.

Described as "heaven' by Clash Magazine, Doune The Rabbit Hole has been named among the best of family-friendly festivals by the likes of The Herald and this year will be no different. Having started life in 2010 near the town of Doune (hence the name!) the festival has since moved to Cardross Estate. Set near the tranquil Lake of Menteith (Scotland's only one!) and within beautiful parkland grounds, the festival will not only host a variety of local and international acts but will also feature an activity-packed children's area and a dedicated family campsite. As well as this, Doune the Rabbit Hole has also been lucky enough to receive funding from EventScotland to help celebrate the Year of Innovation Architecture and Design. This grant will be used to bring a selection of artists and architects together to design and build a brand new stage and will feature an eclectic programme of new, innovative music to be curated by The Tolbooth in Stirling.
