As The Great Escape's tenth birthday is approaching fast, we decided it was time to take a look back at some of the best artists to have performed on our stages. This week's #TBT trip down memory lane takes us back to 2009...

Django Django (UK)

Played @ Above Audio
The Great Escape has seen Django Django develop from early whispers of something exciting back in 2009 to the critically acclaimed innovators they are today, with the band drawing huge crowds for their euphoric 2012 TGE shows. Debut album "Django Django' saw them hailed as "a dream of the psychedelic tropics' by NME, earning the record a 5/5 from the Guardian and its place in the top ten of numerous "Best Albums of 2012' lists. The Scottish trio's experimental, reverb-filled sound, alongside intensely catchy choruses has proved to be a huge crowd-puller as evidenced by their sets at Field Day, T in the Park and Glastonbury and a headline slot on the prestigious NME tour in 2013. A hectic tour schedule delayed work on their second album, but we hope to hear something new soon.

Metronomy (UK)
Metronomy
Played @ The Corn Exchange
Stemming from humble laptop DJ beginnings, electronic innovators Metronomy charmed us with their first Great Escape show in 2006. However it was their 2009 Corn Exchange show that showed just how far they'd come: the band played to a packed venue, with NME remarking that the "weirdo-electro-pop outfit transcends to the next tier of megaband status'. They haven't lost any momentum since. Next album "The English Riviera' was nominated for the Mercury Prize. Their most recent release, "Love Letters' scored them a Number 7 spot on the UK charts and was followed by huge festival sets across Europe, including Reading and Leeds this summer, as well as a headline slot at Wilderness. They play Alexandra Palace on December 5th with support from fellow TGE darling Courtney Barnett.

The Temper Trap (Australia)

Played @ The Honey Club & Komedia
The Temper Trap's double set at TGE 2009 marked them out as a band to watch out for. It's safe to say we've kept an eye on the Aussie rockers, asking them back for a sensational headline slot at the Dome in 2012. Since 2009 the band have played V Festival, Reading and Leeds, and Glastonbury, as well as supporting the Rolling Stones in Sydney last year. Their sweeping sound earned them a BRIT nomination for "Best International Breakthrough' in 2010 and four ARIA awards back on their home turf, including "Best Group' and "Most Popular Australian Single'. Their third album is reportedly set for release before the end of the year, but until then "Sweet Disposition' on repeat will have to keep us going.

Noah and the Whale (UK)
noah-and-the-whale
Played @ Unitarian Church
With a debut album that charted at Number 5 in the UK (including sunshine filled top 10 hit "5 Years Time') and a second that chalked up a 9/10 from NME under their belts, indie folksters Noah and the Whale were well set for their fantastic 2009 set in Brighton's Unitarian Church. The summer that followed saw them play the main stage at Reading and Leeds, with "The First Days of Spring' earning its place in Albums of the Year lists all over, including a Top 10 finish in both The Times and The Guardian. In the last few years, the band have scored another top 20 single (the mellow yet anthemic "L.I.F.E.G.O.E.S.O.N.'), supported Vampire Weekend, performed at Glastonbury and headlined Wilderness. Although there's been no word yet on a fifth album, we can't wait to hear what's next.

Kasabian (UK)
Kasabian
Played @ Brighton Dome
Calling Kasabian 2014's kings of British rock is no understatement: This year alone they've headlined Glastonbury and won the Q Award for Best Act in the World Today, with latest album "48:13" being their fourth album on the trot to enter the UK album charts at number one. Other accolades over the years have included 4 NME awards, and a Brit for Best British Group in 2010. Notorious for their powerful live show, 2009's TGE headline slot was no exception: many queued for hours to guarantee their place at the gig and Kasabian did not disappoint, working the audience up into a raucous frenzy. Although their 5 night stand at Brixton Academy in December is sold out, there are still tickets available for the rest of their UK tour, so get in there quick for a slice of the action.

Other stand out artists to have played TGE 2008 include British Sea Power, Connan Mockasin, Holy Fuck, Idlewild, Johnny Flynn, Kasabian, Metronomy, Mumford and sons, Post War Years, The Joy Formidable, The Maccabees, The Pains of Being Pure at Heart and The xx

Here is our playlist featuring a few stand out artists from TGE 2009
