With The Great Escape's 10th birthday fast approaching, we're taking a trip down memory lane to revisit some of our favourite artists over the coming weeks. Today it's back to 2007, our second year. Here are a few of our favourites...

Adele (UK)
Adele
Played @ Red Roaster Café/Concorde 2
Armed with just a guitar, Adele's incredible voice was more than enough to enamour her TGE audiences (there's still a few hazy videos lurking around on YouTube if you want to take a look). Since then she's reached out to millions more, with her 2012 album 21 selling more than 30 million copies worldwide and topping the UK album charts for 23 weeks - the record for a female solo artist. Adele went on to win both the Grammy and BRIT Awards for Album of the Year, amongst a host of other accolades including an Academy Award for Best Original song with Skyfall. Although there's no release date yet, a third album is certainly in the works: watch this space...

CSS (Brazil)
css
Played @ Concorde 2
CSS's infectious dance-rock has made them one of the biggest bands to come out of Brazil in the past decade. Their dynamic live show, as brought to Concorde 2 back at TGE 2007, has exhilarated audiences across the world and earned them support slots with Gwen Stefani, Ladytron and Klaxons over the years. Statement making is part of their DNA, with vocalist Lovefoxxx notorious for her striking stage-wear and their name, Cansei de Ser Sexy, translating literally as "I got tired of being sexy' courtesy of a Beyoncé quote. With lyrics in both English and Portuguese, CSS embody global, boundary crossing music, but whatever influences strike their fancy, their chaotic sense of fun is still as powerful as ever.

Foals (UK)
Foals
Played @ Concorde 2/Horatio's
Way back at 2007's Great Escape, Foals' high-energy, mesmerising set was enough to convince anyone of their potential for great things. Although yet to release their first album at the time, the buzz surrounding their secret show led to huge demand, as well as attracting the likes of The Maccabees. With their last two records both nominated for Mercury prizes, and "Inhaler" named NME's Best Track of 2013 by both the magazine and reader poll, Foals have since established themselves as one of the greatest live acts around. Headlining slots at Latitude and Bestival over the last couple of years are only testament to their phenomenal live power.

Friendly Fires (UK)
Friendly-Fires-withcamera
Played @ Concorde 2
Rising through the ranks from their TGE debut in 2007, to a double set in 2008, and a headline show at the Brighton Dome in 2011, Friendly Fires' vibrant indie dance party is something of a favourite of ours. With their debut album shortlisted for the Mercury Prize and two BRIT nominations in 2010, it appears we're not the only ones. Their exuberant live sound, filled with lush synth and catchy beats, has never failed to pull festivalgoers to their feet. While the band has said that the direction of their upcoming material will be more psychedelic and drawn out, we're sure that we'll love it just as much.

Laura Marling (UK)
laura marling
Played @ The Zap
Performing at The Great Escape in both 2007 and 2008, folk songstress Laura Marling's emotionally raw yet grounded sound has captured the hearts of many since releasing debut album "Alas, I Cannot Swim" at the age of 18. She's certainly won over the industry: three out of her four albums have been nominated for the Mercury Prize, she was named Best Solo Artist in 2011 by NME and won the BRIT for Best British Female in the same year, to name but a few of her many accolades. She's relocated to LA since her last record, deeming the Americans more poetic (we're sure she fits in just fine if that's the case), and we can't wait to see what influence this will have on what's sure to be a magical fifth album.

Other stand out artists to have played TGE 2007 include Angus and Julia Stone, Art Brut, Dan Le Sac vs Scroobius Pip, Gallows, Frank Turner, Kate Nash, Passenger, The Enemy, The Magic Numbers, The Rakes and Willy Mason

Here is our playlist featuring a few stand out artists from TGE 2007
