The line up for this year's TGE featured so many amazing new artists that it's no wonder it was hard to highlight just a few for this piece. Here's a selection of some of the most talked about new bands who played TGE14, and are the acts that we think you should keep an eye on in the coming months:

1. Alvvays (Canada)

With an 8/10 album review from NME and a 7.6 from Pitchfork, surf-ish indie-pop outfit  Alvvays are well on their way to something big. Following their performance at TGE, the four piece hailing from Toronto played numerous festival this year and recently sold out London show.

2. The Amazing Snakeheads (Scotland)

Scottish rockers The Amazing Snakeheads put on a fierce set at The Haunt to an exhilarated crowd at TGE this year. Having charged through a festival-filled summer and a huge support slot for Jack White's Hammersmith Apollo shows, the energetic trio's visceral, powerful sound is something to be experienced live if possible, with a UK tour scheduled for October.

3. Ballet School (Germany)

Ballet School's three Great Escape sets this year were all full to the brim; with festival-goers flocking to hear their eighties-esque, hypnotic disco pop. Self-described as a "guitar band trying to push the boundaries of a traditional set up', the Berlin-based trio is one to watch out for, with an album set for release on 8th September and a November UK tour in the pipeline.

4. Courtney Barnett (Australia)

Courtney Barnett's witty, narrative-style lyrics are garnering her quite the following, as seen at her three at-capacity shows this year. Post-TGE appearances at Lollapalooza, Primavera and Glastonbury as well a supporting slot on Metronomy's huge Alexandra Palace show in December, cement the Aussie songstress as one to keep an eye on.

5. Charli XCX (UK)

Charli XCX's Corn Exchange set on our final night was an explosion of goth-pop energy.  With number one singles from collaborations with Icona Pop and Iggy Azalea already under her belt, expectations were high for solo single Boom Clap which charted at number 6 in the UK, indicative of great things to come from the singer-songwriter. Her album "Sucker' is due for an October release. Watch this space...

6. Coely (Belgium)

Many found their favourite new act in Belgian hip-hop artist Coely, whose powerful singing voice coupled with engaging rap made for a fantastic performance. Having played support slots for big names such as Kanye West and Jessie Ware and numerous festivals across Europe, she was recently awarded the Red Bull Electropedia Award for Breakthrough of the Year.

7. East India Youth (UK)

With his debut album dubbed by NME as "well executed, quite odd, highly original and full of promise' and awarded an 8/10, 22 year old William Doyle of East India Youth is set for big things. His 3 TGE shows were highly anticipated and just as impressive - the synth-pop sensation is one to keep an eye on.

8. George Ezra (UK)

Fifth in BBC's Sound of 2014, George Ezra has gone from strength to strength with a top five single and album since his highly anticipated show at The Warren for The Great Escape. Unfortunately you're too late to catch him on his sold-out UK tour this October; however the guitar-toting crooner will be back before long.

9. Future Islands (United States)

Any wise fan planning to see Future Islands at this year's TGE would have had to stake out for a considerable amount of time to guarantee their entry: hailing from Baltimore, the new-wave dance band drew a huge crowd after gaining massive attention after their performance earlier this year on the David Letterman Show in the US. As well as TGE, the band played Latitude, Coachella and US shows this summer, returning to the UK in November.

10. Girl Band (Ireland)

Irish quartet Girl Band's visceral post-punk rock has generated lots of attention from the music press and is showing no signs of slowing down after their two electric shows at The Great Escape, Their new single "De Bom Bom' was released this week on a limited 7" vinyl only. The accompanying video can be viewed here. The band are currently off touring Europe before heading back to play dates in both London and Manchester in October. Grab tickets while you can.

11. Glass Animals (UK)

Oxford-based four-piece Glass Animals put music on hold during their university studies, a move that hasn't stopped them from returning to the scene with full force, putting on a fantastic show at the Brighton Coalition for TGE. The atmospheric indie act are signed to label Wolf Tone run by mega producer Paul Epworth (the man behind Adele and Florence and the Machine) so expect great things.

12. Jess Glynne (UK)

With her vocals already featuring on two number one singles earlier this year, Jess Glynne's career is off to a promising start. Her Great Escape set this year showcased her unique soul voice and hip-hop sound. Catch her on her UK tour in the autumn.

13. Gorgon City (UK)

Gorgon City's late night set at The Warren this year was, in line with their newest single, "Unmissable'. The electro-pop duo's TGE show featured many of the other vocalists who they've worked with recently, a real treat for the audience who showed their appreciation by letting the beat take them away. With a North American tour just announced and their debut album due for release in October, things will only continue to climb for these guys.

14. Jungle (UK)

Perhaps one of the most hyped bands of TGE 2014, Jungle's multi-layered funk had crowds descending on The Haunt in their droves. Post TGE, the band went on to play numerous festivals over the summer, including playing to huge crowds at both Reading & Leeds and Glastonbury. Their debut album was released in July and they hit the road in September to embark on a huge US and European tour. Expect big things...

15. Jaakko Eino Kalevi (Finland)

Ethereal sensation Jaakko Eino Kalevi is a tram driver back in his native Finland, but he's managed to get enough time off work to play at numerous festivals this summer including TGE, Field Day and Visions. His three sets for us this year were bewitching and hazy at times, yet utterly compelling.

16. Le Vasco (France)

Le Vasco's excitingly unpredictable sound left many a little awe-struck at their TGE sets. Shifting seamlessly from heavy hip-hop beats and fierce vocals to a stripped back sound that's almost eerie in comparison, with bits of everything in-between, the French five-piece have received plenty of interest from the industry, as well as being picked up and played by XFM's John Kennedy.

17. MØ (Denmark)

Returning to TGE after a massive year, MØ's high-energy sets had the whole crowd up and dancing; little wonder considering her catchy tunes, powerful vocals and electric audience-working antics. March saw her release infectious debut album "No Mythologies to Follow',  followed by performances at numerous festivals including Reading and Leeds, with Bestival still to come. She's showing no signs of slowing down, with a US and European tour in the pipeline. Catch her at her next UK gig in Shepherd's Bush on 1st November.

18. OY (Switzerland)

Oy's innovative electro-infused African beats had the TGE audience on their feet during their lively, captivating performances. Their catchy, danceable sound has scored them slots at many European festivals this summer; new album No Chance Saloon is definitely one for the shimmying round the kitchen playlist.

19. Royal Blood (UK)

09/05/2014, BRIGHTON: The Great escape Festival, The Strokes

Rock duo Royal Blood returned to their hometown to play an intense, buzz-worthy set at the Corn Exchange on Saturday night. Their huge sound filled the venue, making it easy to forget there's just the two of them. Their self-titled album has just been released and charted straight at number 1, with rocket sales making it the fastest selling British rock debut in 3 years; if you haven't got yourself a copy yet, then put it at the top of the to do list.

20. Rejjie Snow (Ireland)

Signed to Rocket Music Entertainment, co founded by Elton John, Rejjie Snow's smooth hip-hop has had him hailed as Ireland's next big thing. After his brilliant performance at Audio on Friday night, we can safely say this rapper's hard-hitting tunes are going to be huge.

21. TarO&JirO (Japan)

Part of our Japanese showcase (complete with free sushi), acoustic guitar rock duo TarO&JirO were a highlight for many at this year's TGE. After winning the Japanese division of Emergenza (the world's largest battle-of-the-bands) in 2013 and proceeding to the world final, their first album was released last year.

22. Tove Lo (Sweden)

The catchy, electric beats of Tove Lo are attracting the attention of the big guns, with a support slot for Katy Perry in line for the winter. The Swedish songstress's honest, almost confessional songs have proved infectious and we can't wait to see what else she comes up with.
