Vincent Neil Emerson - Learnin' To Drown

In our last year's playlist we already featured the amazing country singer/songwriter Vincent Neil Emerson from Texas with his song "7 come 11". We've been eagerly waiting for his new album ever since.

Just recently Emerson released his self-titled album and it's a piece of beauty while there's not much happiness in the songs. "Learnin' To Drown" addresses the suicidal death of Emerson's father and the process of dealing with the trauma. Outstanding honesty and incredible songwriting.

I been sleepin' in my car
Been movin' fast
But it seems I ain't gone far
And I can't believe
Aw, what I am
And what I used to be
I'm barely a man and livin' hard
My father killed himself
And my mother hit the bar
Well, ain't it funny?
Ain't it funny how
The world'll set you free?
I spent my whole life wonderin' why I'm down
I don't feel easy if the blues don't come around
And my face don't look right without a frown
Well, if you can't swim, you better learn to drown

Northcote - War Is Over

Another artist that we have featured in our previous playlist, is Northcote from Victoria, Canada. Northcote's album "Let Me Roar" has been one of our favourite records of the year 2020. "War Is Over" is part of the deluxe release of "Let Me Roar" which has just been released. It's a powerful piano ballad and focuses on the incredible voice of Matthew Goud alias "Northcote".

"Out on the edge Of not coming back
It scares me to death
To say it out loud
How much more can I take
A man whose broken is surely to break
With my hands on my heart
I look up at the sky
For someone to tell me
That it'll be alright

This war is over
I raise my flag
Lay down your weapons
And walk away
You want me to fight but I can't anymore
I don't even want what i've been fighting for"

Robert Finley - Souled Out On You

Five years ago Robert Finley released his studio debut at the age of 63. "Sharecropper's Son" is his third studio album produced by Dan Auerbach and it's a spectacular soul-roots album. Finley's fantastic voice has an unbelievable range.

"Souled Out On You," is "the story of a relationship that's ending," Finley explained, adding, "It's about someone who takes on everything in the relationship. All the good and the bad and even after all of that, they notice that it just isn't going to work out and the relationship has run its course. I took all I could take and I'm starting my life over."
