This year's Sónar line-up presents more women than ever before. Several of them, like Neneh Cherry, Lykke Li, Robyn and MŘ, are leading figures from the Scandinavian scene who share an indisputable international recognition. They will each perform their most recent material at Sónar by Day and Sónar by Night stages.

The festival will feature shows by new underground electronica muses Laurel Halo, Jessy Lanza, Nisennenmondai, Inga Copeland, Yelle, Tokimonsta, Fatima Al Qadiri and Asma Maroof (the last two taking part in the Future Brown project), as well as national artists BFlecha, Cristina Checa (Desert) and Eme DJ, all of whom are currently revelling in their rising success and growing international presence.

Listen to an exclusive mix by BFlecha for Sónar 2014 here, including tracks from Missy Elliott, Glasser, Little Dragon, Brandy and Beyoncé, among others.

Sweden's Neneh Cherry is one of the most respected international artists of the last 30 years. Stepdaughter of legendary jazz trumpeter Don Cherry, she achieved huge success in the '90s with albums like "Raw Like Sushi" and this year returns with her new "Blank Project" album (produced by Four Tet), which she will perform live at Sónar by Day supported by post-rock avant-garde duo RocketNumberNine.

Robyn is also one of the most popular artists in Scandinavia's pop scene. 2014 sees her partnering with Norwegian duo Röyksopp on a tour that promises large doses of house and electropop for the dance floor. They will precisely kick off the tour on Friday night at SonarClub stage, and their joint LP "Do it Again" will also be released just days before their show.

Meanwhile, Lykke Li, one of the most charismatic figures to emerge from the Swedish scene, will also appear at Sónar by Night, presenting her new album "I Never Learn". This will be the last part of a trilogy characterized by a perfect blend of electro, soul and pop. Also presenting her energetic and magnetic debut album, "No Mythologies To Follow", is the latest Nordic sensation, Danish , in a similar spectrum as artists like Jessie Ware and Grimes.

Yelle is without doubt another prominent woman at Sónar 2014. The French artist has always triumphed at the festival with her infectious electro-funk, and this year she will debut songs from her third and highly anticipated album, with a brand new live show on Saturday 14th at Sónar by Night. From Japan come Nisennenmondai, three experimented musicians who will perform their powerful songs on stage, somewhere between post-punk, no wave, krautrock, free jazz and disco.

Future Brown are the perfect example of what we could call an underground supergroup. Formed by Kuwait born artist Fatima Al Qadiri (central figure of New York avant-garde, with newly released album "Asiatisch") duo Nguzunguzu (with Asma Maroof at the front) and producer J-Cush, they're changing the face of grime, blending it with hip-hop and future electronic beats.

Also from the U.S., Laurel Halo has earned the respect of critics and the more discerning public alike, with her two rugged, cutting edge techno albums on London label Hyperdub. Jessy Lanza, one of last year's revelations, shares label with Halo but her music is something quite different: bright electronic pop laced with soul and trip-hop, with production support provided by Jeremy Greenspan (from Junior Boys).

Among the national artists is the especially outstanding Galician BFlecha: her album "Beta" is an excellent collection of timeless synthetic r&b and soulful pop gems, full of instantaneous hits speaking of nearby galaxies and universal feelings. Meanwhile, well-known Eme DJ ill open SonarCar stage on Friday 13th with her pop fused with electronica, while Cristina Checa will front Desert, a duet with percussionist Eloi Caballé which has conquered the American market with its dreamy and highly captivating hypnotic pop.

From the UK comes Monki, the successful BBC Radio1 presenter and dj who will close one of the two night shifts at SonarCar stage with an overview of the very best in recent bass music. Meanwhile, the mysterious Inga Copeland (once part of the Hype Williams duo) will arrive at Sónar in her new musical guise, with the magnificent "Because I'm Worth It" LP and a show that promises to continue the unpredictable enigma of her previous group.

Four other women will appear on SonarDôme stage, curated by the Red Bull Music Academy at Sónar by Day: L. A. beatmaker Tokimonsta, the Russian Love Cult with their shadowy electronica, North American Simonne Jones i la francesa De La Montagne, with her infectious electro with a punk attitude.
