OFFFMàtica presents a selection of works which are based on the concept of the portrait, in three separate areas of investigation: interactive installations, printed design works and a selection of online works.

From the treatment of pixels to reality and its representation, taking in interpretation and distorsion, the display asks two questions: 1) how does technology depict us? and 2) what parts of our identity -image, movement, character- does it use to do so?

Interactive installations make up the main body of the exhibition. New York's Joshua Davis presents "The Yelling Room", a new work in which viewers can paint portraits using the sounds they make themselves; the quartet McDonald, Lieberman, Watson & Manabe are the architects of "The Janus Machine", a contraption that scans visitors' images and compares with them with previously scanned faces; Aram Barthol is the creator of "0,16", a light installation that turns viewers' shadows into pixels; "Mirror Piece", by Holland's Marnix de Nijs, juxtaposes the visitor's image on many other faces of controversial individuals; Daito Manabe & Motoi Ishibashi present two highly unusual works: "Fadeout" and "Points", in which the visitor's image is recreated on screens using a laser and a compressed air pistol, respectively. Set Hunter & Eric Rosenbaum bring us an unusual perception of time and space with "Stillness Clock, Motion Clock", while "Photobooth" (created by Ignore) is an unusual photo booth, which aims to capture viewers' emotions rather than their real image.

Printed graphic work pieces make up the second section of OFFFMàtica, and are all displayed under the heading of Overtype Studio Tour: BCN Vol 1.0. These pieces are produced by design studios in Barcelona selected for the occasion (Brosmind, Enric Sant, Flan*, Joel Lozano, Luis NCT, Hanako Mimiko and Happymiaow), and are all created using generative drawing tools and of course, are based on the theme of the portrait.

Finally, OFFFMàtica presents a special selection of online projects which help to contextualise and provide a better understanding of the concepts behind the exhibition, the majority of which are only available on the Internet, and which enable the viewer to interact.

OFFFMàtica is a joint production between OFFF, Sonar and CCCB that will take place between 9th and 19th June, in the traditional venue for SonarMàtica, on Floor -1 of the CCCB.
