In 1999, the desire to provide one such opportunity led Claude Nobs, founder and director of the Festival, to create the world’s first international solo competition for professional jazz pianists. His aim was not only to lend a helping hand to young musicians struggling for recognition, but also to enable them to meet pianists of the same age and level from other countries.

This Year is the 12th edition of the Bösendorfer Montreux Jazz Piano Solo Competition. We have received 44 applications from young pianists under 30 of 23 different countries from all around the world, from wich 12 candidates have been selected by the Montreux -Vevey- Riviera Conservatory of Music and School of Jazz to play at the semi-final in Montreux. The Jury of the Bösendorfer Solo Piano Competition 2010 is Yaron Herman.

5 young pianists have participated to the final which took place on Friday 9th of July.

The winners of the 12th Bösendorfer Montreux Jazz Solo Piano Competition are:

1st prize: Nicolay Sidorenko (Russia)
2nd prize ex-aequo : Logan Thomas (USA) & David Helbock (Austria)
3rd prize : Zoltan Balogh (Hungary)
Special prize: Tuomas Antero Turunen (Finland)
