Claude Nobs received the Skoda Award at Jazzahead Bremen on Friday April 29. The laudatory speech was held by Siggi Loch (ACT).

"Claude Nobs has managed like no other to combine jazz and tourism. He has turned the incredibly beautiful but sleepy Montreux into a city of jazz of international significance. The former accountant of the Montreux tourist office became the director of one of the most important festivals in the world. An essential mentor for him was Nesuhi Ertegun, jazz producer and artistic decision-maker at Atlantic Records. Calculation, improvisation, friendships and legends are the ingredients the trained cook has been using to make the Montreux Jazz Festival a globally known event for over 40 years. In a balancing act between commercialism and artistic standards, the festival attracts more than 230,000 music lovers to Montreux each year."
