Emoto - Visualising Global Emotion

Outside our annual festival, FutureEverything develops year-round innovation projects, including a major artwork for London 2012 Festival and Cultural Olympiad, Emoto - Visualising Global Emotion.

The worldwide audience response to London 2012 will be revealed in an online visualisation and a data sculpture featuring stunning interactive digital displays and evolving 3D sculpture.

Emoto provides a real-time manifestation of the worldwide emotional response to the Olympic Games 2012. We track social media sites for olympics related themes and analyse the messages for content and emotional tone. The collected emotion data can be viewed real-time on our web-based visualization as the events unfold. After the games, a "data sculpture" will serve as an aggregate archive of the collective response to the games.

The online visualisation will launch on 26 July as part of London 2012 Festival and Cultural Olympiad. The data sculpture will be presented at the North West's closing celebration for London 2012, WE PLAY Expo from 7-9 September 2012 in Preston.

Created by Moritz Stefaner, Drew Hemment, Studio NAND.

A FutureEverything project with MIT Senseable City Lab for the Cultural Olympiad programme and London 2012 Festival. Supported by Datasift, co-sponsored by GE and funded by Arts Council England and WE PLAY/Legacy Trust UK.
