Das Städtchen Bakersfield trägt den zweifelhaften Spitznamen "Nashville West" und gilt als Country-Hauptstadt der amerikanischen Westküste. Doch eine kleine Gruppe von Musiker*innen ist angetreten, ihre Heimatstadt für einen anderen Sound bekannt zu machen.

The Soul Chance ist ihr Name und ihr analoger lo-fi Sound ist ihr Markenzeichen. Die Truppe um Nico Willis (vocals) und AJ Brewer, den einige vielleicht noch von seiner alten Band, The Soulsteppers kennen, veröffentlicht in diesen Tagen ihr Debütalbum, dessen Songs wurzelt tief im souligen Early Reggae der späten 60er/frühen 70er Jahre: Dave Barker, Ansel Collins, The Upsetters und The Hippy Boys.

Wir freuen uns ganz besonders, das The Soul Chance sich das Freedom Sounds ausgesucht haben für ihr allererstes Konzert in Europa.

In the little town of Bakersfield, a city nicknamed ‚Nashville West - the country music capital of the West Coast", a group of musicians are determined to make their hometown known for more than just country music.

Their name is The Soul Chance and their lo-fi, analogue sound has become their signature distinction that sets them apart from the rest. With an emphasis on the early reggae music of Jamaica, The Soul Chance recreates the popular music of the late '60s and early '70s by such Jamaican greats as Dave & Ansel Collins, The Upsetters and The Hippy Boys.

Fronted by Nico Collins and AJ Brewer (who some of you might know from his old band, The Soulsteppers), The Soul Chance have just completed their debut album, which will be released in Europe on 8^th November.

We're honoured that The Soul Chance have chosen to play their very first show in Europe at Freedom Sounds 2020.
