wir freuen uns dieses Jahr besondere Gäste auf unserem FREAK VALLEY FESTIVAL begrüßen zu dürfen:

Den WDR Rockpalast.

Unter dem Namen Rockpalast hatte es bereits 1974 einzelne Konzerte gegeben, doch die Initialzündung war die erste Rocknacht mit Rory Gallagher, Little Feat und Roger McGuinn, die vom 23. auf den 24. Juli 1977 in den Eurovisionsländern live übertragen wurde.
Die Rocknächte wurden zu Events für Rockfans in ganz Europa: Man feierte eine Party mit Gleichgesinnten und nahm das Konzert, das parallel im Radio gesendet wurde, auf Tonband auf, um es sich wieder und wieder anzuhören.
So wurde der Rockpalast zum Kultprogramm und sein Archiv mit den Jahren zu einer Fundgrube: Hunderte von Konzerten dokumentieren die Entwicklung der internationalen Populärmusik seit Ende der Siebziger Jahre: von The Who zu Radiohead, über Tom Waits und Outkast bis hin zu Muse und Queens of the Stone Age.
Bereicherten die Loreley und das Bizarre Festivals das Programm in den 80er Jahren, so kamen mit der Zeit jüngere Festivals wie Rock am Ring, Haldern Pop, Summerjam und das Summer Breeze hinzu.

We are pleased to welcome some special guests to our Freak Valley Festival this year.

Under the name Rockpalast, several concerts took place in 1974, but the initial spark was the first Rock Night with Rory Gallagher, Little Feat and Roger McGuinn, which was broadcast live from 23 to 24 July 1977 in the Eurovision countries.

The rock nights became events for rock fans all over Europe: they celebrated a party with like-minded people and recorded the concert, which was simultaneously broadcast on the radio, to listen to it over and over again.

The Rockpalast has become an iconic program and its archive has become a treasure trove over the years: hundreds of concerts have documented the development of international popular music since the late 1970s: from The Who to Radiohead, from Tom Waits to Outkast, and from Muse to Queens Of The Stone Age. The Loreley and Bizarre Festivals enriched the program in the 80s, but and later on younger festivals such as Rock am Ring, Haldern Pop, Summerjam and Summer Breeze were added.

Good news for those who can cannot attend Freak Valley Festival 2019:

The WDR Rockpalast will stream all three days live from the AWO grounds in Deuz.
