No Roots - einen besseren Titel hätte Alice Merton sich für ihr Debüt gar nicht ausdenken können, denn der Song fasst ihre Geschichte in zwei Wörtern zusammen. Alice ist im kanadischen Oakville aufgewachsen, wohnte zwischendurch unter anderem in Amerika und England. Mit ihren 23 Jahren ist sie schon mehr als zehnmal umgezogen und wohnte in vier verschiedenen Ländern. Immer wenn es wieder soweit war, ließ sie eine Stadt, Menschen und Erinnerungen hinter sich und musste neu beginnen. In No Roots spricht Alice Merton davon, keine Wurzeln zu haben. Ihr Zuhause beschränkt sich nicht auf Orte - vielmehr sind es die Beziehungen zu Menschen, die zu ihren Wegbegleitern wurden.

No Roots entwickelte sich innerhalb weniger Wochen zu einem Erfolg und belegte Platz 1 der Spotify Global Viral Charts, der Hype Machine Charts und erreichte über 1.8 Mio. Streams. Mit der nun veröffentlichten EP präsentiert Alice Merton weitere musikalische Seiten ihres kreativen Schaffens. Inhaltlich handeln alle Songs von Alice Erfahrungen, die sie hier verarbeitet hat.

Über ihre Songs sagt Alice Merton:

Jealousy: "It was the longest and most difficult song process i have ever been through. The song took me over six months to write. I wanted to portray the feeling of Jealousy as a person, and imagined it like a fight between two forces, but in this case I was the weaker force by far."

Hit The Ground Running: "I needed to write a song that reminded of what I want in life, an empowering song that makes other people and myself want to be the best they can be, that encourages them to find that inner drive and let it run loose. To not always wait for opportunities in life to happen but to start making your own. I wanted to recreate the sound of running."

Lie To My Face: "Dishonesty isn't a pleasant experience, but it's an experience a lot of people go through in relationships. I wanted to make the production of the song as dramatic and dark as the moment, when I discovered the truth about someone I had cared about a lot. And instead of getting upset about this, I wanted to do the exact opposite in the lyrics by encouraging this behaviour, to keep on lying and keeping secrets."
