Cicha & Palyga

Multiinstrumental duet relates especially to the cultural traditions of Podlaskie – Cicha’s home region, located in the very northeast corner of Poland.

At the concert we’ll hear the songs in following languages: Ukrainian, Lithuanian, Russian, Romani, Belarusian, Yiddish, Polish, Tatarian and Esperanto.

The Concert draws from traditional musical scales. However, it is not a compilation of archive material, but a coherent whole, a modern musical language. It is based on the original style of two musical individualities, on their charisma and experience gained in various adventures with ethnic, archaic and rock music.

KAROLINA CICHA - singer-songwriter, multi-intrumentalist, actress and composer. Between 2007 and 2009, she played and sung the title roles in ‘Electra’ and ‘Ifigenia in A…’ by ‘GARDZIENICE’ Theatre.
She recorded for ‘GAJCY’ album (published by Warsaw Uprising Museum). She also recorded ‘WAWA2010.PL’ where she sang duets with stars of the polish alternative scene (Tomasz Budzyński, Tymon Tymański, Czesław Mozil and others). ‘Do ludożerców’ album – devoted to the poetry of Tadeusz Różewicz – was released in 2010. Her most recent CD – ‘Miękkie maszyny’ (2012) - includes Karolina’s fully author’s music and some of her own lyrics.

As a member of „Gardzienice” Theatre, Cicha performed in United States, Egypt, Greece, Norway, Latvia. She gives concerts in Poland and abroad. She’s the guest of both international rock festivals (Heineken Open’er Festival in Gdynia), as well as theatre events ( ‘Review of Actor’s Songs in Wroclaw’, ‘Teatromania’).

BART PALYGA - cellist, multi-instrumentalist, improviser

He specializes in playing on several ethnic, mostly stringed, instruments, from all over the world. He’s a precursor of aliquot (throat) singing in modern, folk and pop music.

A member of such bands as: Masala, Village Kollektiv, Arcus Poloniae, Yerba Mater, Maria Pomianowska Band. Touring with these bands, he has visited almost every continent (he played at Ollincan Festival in Mexico, Fusion Festival in Germany, La Folle Journée in France, Mostar World Music Festival in Moldova, Open’er Festival and Woodstock-Stop Festival in Poland. He also performed in China, during the celebration of the Chopin Year in China.)

He collaborates with Michał Rudas, Mosaic, Etnofonie Kurpiowskie. He recorded film and theatre music with Krzesimir Dębski and Antoni Łazarkiewicz.
