Orang Bati is a new progressive rock act based in Aachen, Germany. They are currently polishing their debut album "For the Return of the Bee" recorded in the Noiseless-Studio in Rhede, to be released later this year. With the first single "Larsen B" already out and live shows beginning in September, they are looking to add something new to the progressive scene in and around Aachen. With a lot of unfinished material from earlier projects, Michael Borchers (former guitarist of "Dew Scented" and "Regicide") met up with Alper Ersoy (go-to guitarist of Turkish rockstars Haluk Levent and Ogün Sanlisoy touring Germany). The two realised they shared the same love for old heavy metal licks, progressive music and an oriental sound, and got the ball rolling. They were first joined by the singer Süleyman Büyükdere (adding yet more oriental flare with his unique voice and singing style), later joined by drummer Anton Lord from Sweden, and finally the bass player Bariscan Senergin from Turkey. With their different backgrounds, Orang Bati became a melting pot of influences from near and far. The music moves between rock and metal, sometimes on the heavier side, but not afraid of a catchy chorus or a lot of harmony and backing vocals. With many different personal influences, the resulting sound reminds of "A Perfect Circle", "Deftones" or "Tool". The composition is always in focus, with more progressive instrumental passages showing up here and there. The first single "Larsen B" covers environmental questions and is an ode to the now almost completely melted ice shelf Larsen B in Antarctica. Songs on the upcoming album deal with personal and social problems affecting us all, like mental health and suicide, while other songs lean towards the supernatural. What is clear is that the lyrics are a very important part of the music and what Orang Bati want to convey with their music. |
